The second edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League is slated to be held in September.
Ivory Coast has been confirmed as the host nation for the 2023 CAF Women's Champions League by the Confederation of African Football (Caf).
The Moroccan Football Federation withdrew from the competition to reclaim the hosting rights, which opened the door for the Ivorians to make the statement following the CAF Executive Committee meeting held in Algiers on Thursday.
Morocco had been expected to win the hosting rights for the third edition, however Fauzi Lekja, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, announced that the North African nation would no longer be hosting the competition.
The change is crucial because it practically guarantees that the upcoming finals, which will be staged in the West African country for the first time in 2023 for the first time ever, would also take place outside of North Africa.
For the third iteration of the only club competition in Africa, the champions of the host nation will compete alongside the defending champions, ASFAR FC, and six zonal champions from WAFU-A, WAFU-B (West Africa), UNAF (North Africa), UNIFFAC (Central Africa), CECAFA (East Africa), and COSAFA (Southern Africa).
