The Toffees looked to continue to ride against the relegation wave under the tutelage of Sean Dyche when they hosted Fulham at Goodison Park; however, today they were pulled back into it after a sound beating at the hands of Marco Silva’s men.

How it happened

Everton were off the back of a run of three games without a victory when they matched up against the Cottagers this afternoon. They started the game with a pop, buoyed by the Goodison Park crowd as they looked to return to winning ways.

However, the visitors soon played their way into the game and, unlike their hosts, were rewarded with a goal for their early efforts. Harrison Reed gave his side a 22nd-minute lead after he was set up by former Manchester United man Daniel James, much to the dismay of the home crowd.

The hosts regained control of the game and began to threaten Fulham’s goals. Their barrage of attacks finally formed a crack in the wall of their opposition’s defence, and Dwight McNeil fully capitalised to pull the tie level.

The second-half was all Fulham, but Everton returned from the break with an encouraging outlook, but their visitors soon wrestled back control.

Willian set Harry Wilson up in the 51st minute as the visitors forged ahead for the second time in the game. The goal brought calm to the Cottagers, who went on to control the game for the majority of the half.

In the 68th minute of action, Fulham doubled their advantage. Dan James, who assisted the first goal, got himself on the scoresheet by finishing brilliantly past the helpless Jordan Pickford.

Everton took initiative after conceding the third time, but they did not manage to improve the scoreline in their favour before the final whistle sounded.
