Nigerian playmaker Alex Iwobi put in a solid performance for his club Fulham in the London Derby win against Tottenham before the Super Eagles resume for WCQ.

Nigeria's Alex Iwobi might not have lit up the stats sheet, but he still left his mark on Fulham’s 2-0 London Derby victory over Tottenham on Sunday before taking a sly swipe that had Arsenal fans grinning.

The Nigerian playmaker, now 28, clocked 63 minutes in the win ahead of jetting off to join the Super Eagles for their 2026 World Cup Qualifier (WCQ) showdown.

But while his performance was unusually muted, his post-match banter was anything but.

On the pitch, Iwobi was a shadow of his creative self. Zero chances created, zero key passes, zero shots, not the stat line you’d expect from Fulham’s midfield maestro.

Alex Iwobi played for just 63 minutes against Spurs.

He completed just one of five crosses, made six passes into the final third, and managed a 50% success rate on his take-ons.

It wasn’t a horror show, but for a player known for his flair and vision, it was a rare off-day. Still, Fulham got the job done, with goals elsewhere securing bragging rights over Spurs.

Iwobi failed to create a single chance against Tottenham.

Off the pitch, though? Iwobi turned up the heat. Taking to social media, he dropped a cheeky five-word bombshell:

“What Do We Think Of…” a clear nod to the Arsenal faithful’s famous chant mocking Tottenham.

The ex-Gunner’s dig didn’t go unnoticed. “Once a Gunner, always a Gunner,” one Arsenal fan gushed in the comments, while others lapped up the shade thrown at their North London rivals.

For a player who spent over a decade in Arsenal’s ranks before moving to Everton and then Fulham, it was a nostalgic jab that hit all the right notes.

Now, Iwobi’s focus shifts to Kigali, where he’ll link up with the Super Eagles for a must-win WCQ clash against Rwanda.

Nigeria’s faltering campaign, fifth in Group C with just three points, needs a spark, and while his Fulham stats were quiet, that social media zinger proves he’s still got plenty of fire.

Can he bring that edge to the international stage? Nigerians are watching.
