Sancho has rediscovered his best form since returning to Borussia Dortmund on loan from Manchester United in January.

Manchester United signed Sancho for 72m from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, all in a bid to finally land an elite-level talent on the right wing.

It is an understatement to say the transfer has not worked out, with last season providing the lowest of moments, as he came to a head with manager Erik ten Hag.

Now, though, he has become a key player in Borussia Dortmund's bid to pull off a Wembley upset in Saturday’s Champions League Final against Real Madrid.

Sancho’s resurgence under boss Edin Terzic has added an unexpected twist.

Sancho working hard to bounce back after recent disappointments

“Game by game I’ve just been working on myself, trying to be a better player. Everything I do is for the team and I’m thankful to them - and the staff - for welcoming me back.

The upcoming match also provides Sancho with an opportunity to overcome the disappointment of the Euro 2020 Final, where his England team lost to Italy in a penalty shootout. Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka, and Sancho missed penalty kicks for Gareth Southgate's team and faced online racist abuse afterward.

“It was hard. The backlash wasn’t nice. Being in London, not in a million years would I have thought we would receive that. It's a memory I try to block but I just have to be positive.

“It felt as though we’d let our country down. I know we didn’t but that’s how it felt in the moment. Of course, I saw the love. And we do appreciate it - speaking on behalf of Bukayo and Marcus.

"But it is still something in my head sometimes. I don’t think I have fully recovered yet but I’m trying my best.
