Lille's Jonathan David wants to join one of the top two leagues in the World when his time at the club ends
Lille forward Jonathan David has confessed his desire to play in either the Premier League or LaLiga, describing a move to one of the ‘big leagues’ as every kid's dream.
Jonathan David breaks Eden Hazard’s record against Lyon
David passed Lille icon Eden Hazard in the club’s all-time scoring chart with a hat-trick against Lyon on Friday night, taking his total tally for the club to 53 goals in 125 matches to become the club’s top scorer in the 21st century.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Fabrizio Romano after the game, David revealed that he was elated with his historical feat and explained how much breaking Eden Hazard’s record meant to him.
He said, "I've admired Eden Hazard for a long time, to break his record is a bit surreal for me.
“I am thankful to my teammates, the supporters, our coaching staff for support and encouragement.”
After discussing the milestone, Lille’s Canadian record-setter also spoke about his next career goals and the steps he hoped to take in the near future.
David dreams of the Premier League and LaLiga
While his immediate future is focused on Lille and their battle to make the Champions League spots for next season, David says he still dreams of playing in either the Premier League or LaLiga at some point in his career.
"The furthest I can see for the moment is the next game and helping Lille get back into the top four. Saturday mornings growing up in Canada were about the Premier League and La Liga,” he said, adding that "Premier League and LaLiga are every kid's dream.”
David has a contract with Lille until 2025 and has been a key player for Les Dogues this season, scoring 19 goals in Ligue 1 and 21 goals in all competitions in 29 appearances.
