Jordan Henderson is the subject of a lucrative inquiry from Saudi Arabia but how much does he currently earn at Liverpool and how much does he stand to make at Al-Ettifaq?

Liverpool and England midfielder Jordan Henderson is the latest of many Europe-based players to attract interest from Saudi Arabia.

The 33-year-old is the subject of transfer interest from Al-Ettifaq, the Saudi Pro League club that recently employed another Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as their new coach.

Gerrard reportedly pinpointed Henderson as his top target and the first major signing of his reign at Al-Ettifaq.

Obviously, the Saudi club have adopted the strategy of tempting players with massive salary offers but what are the specifics of this offer to Henderson and how much of an improvement is it to his current Liverpool contract?

Al-Ettifaq’s life-changing offer to Jordan Henderson

Al-Ettifaq have reportedly offered Henderson a mega weekly wage in excess of £700,000 which is said to have really interested the player.

The offer will see Henderson earn £700,000 every week over the next three years, amounting to around £37 million a year and £111 million total by the end of his contract in 2026.

The England international would be earning about quadruple his current Liverpool salary at Al-Ettifaq if the deal does go through.

Acclaimed football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Henderson has already accepted the offer from Al-Ettifaq.

The verbal agreement in principle for the contract is dependent on both clubs reaching an agreement for the transfer fee.

Liverpool are reported to want a sizeable transfer fee and would not be letting Henderson leave for free or cheap despite his age.

Jordan Henderson’s current Liverpool contract and salary

Liverpool are well within their rights to ask for a transfer fee from Al-Ettifaq as Henderson still has two years left on his current contract.

The player reportedly had a conversation with manager Jurgen Klopp to seek permission to accept the offer from Saudi Arabia.

The manager granted it as Henderson is now dispensable given the recent midfield reinforcements in the signings of Alexis Macallister from Brighton and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.

Both clubs are reportedly in a discussion to reach an agreement for a transfer fee and a compromise could be found soon especially since the player is keen on the move.

Henderson’s current contract was signed in August 2021, a four-year extension set to expire in the summer of 2025.

Henderson is believed to earn in the region of £140k a week at Liverpool which amounts to an annual salary of over £7 million according to Capology.

It is not difficult to see why he could not resist the massive £700,000-a-week offer which would bag him around £37 million annually, well over a 400% increase on his current wages.

Jordan Henderson’s Liverpool career

The Saudi Arabian interest in Henderson came as a surprise to the football world as many had assumed he would spend the rest of his career at Liverpool.

The man affectionately called “Hendo” was signed by Liverpool in 2011 from Sunderland for an undisclosed fee and was a protege of Steven Gerrard.

Henderson has since assumed the mantle of Gerrard in Liverpool’s midfield for the last 12 years, playing 492 games for the club and returning 33 goals and 61 assists according to Transfermarkt.

He won the EFL Cup in his first season at the club and would win it one more time exactly a decade later in 2022.
