Liverpool moved closer to claiming the Premier League title with a win over their rivals Everton in the Merseyside Derby.

The Reds lost their chance of getting their first trophy of the season, having lost 2-1 to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final.

Arne Slot's men, who were down with their morale, needed a win to boost their chances in the EPL.

However, they had to fight hard to get a 1-0 victory over their Merseyside neighbours, the Magpies, at Anfield on the night

As it happened

Liverpool made one change from their Carabao Cup final loss by Newcastle and manager Arne Slot has sprung a surprise.

Everton were unchanged from the late 1-1 draw they secured against West Ham last time out.

The home side started the game brightly and sprung up several chances but failed to convert, taking a draw into the half time break.

Entering the second half, Liverpool took the lead when Luis Diaz rolled the ball with his heel into the path of Jota, who showed quick feet to beat a tackle before finding the net.

Liverpool held on for most of the game and denied Everton an equaliser until the referee blew the final whistle.
