Fulham dug deep to claim a vital win over Wolves in the hunt for a European spot

Although they both did not start the game, Nigerian stars Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey were still able to contribute as Fulham squeezed out a 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Both Super Eagles stars were introduced in the second half and they helped the Cottagers bag three points that leave them within touching distance of a top four spot.

How it happened

Desperate for all three points in search of a place in Europe next season, Fulham made an electrifying start to the match, taking the lead within one minute of play.

Some fine work from Rodrigo Muniz and Andreas Perreira set up Ryan Sessegnon to make it 1-0 to the visitors before the fans had fully settled into their seats.

Wolves expectedly fought back and were soon level when Joao Gomes’ scorcher made it 1-1 after only 18 minutes.

Both teams entered the break even with Wolves seeing the better chances to take the lead before half-time.

The home side were made to rue their missed chances chances as Fulham scored another early goal in the second half, with Muniz netting what would eventually be the winner after only two minutes of the restart.

Following Muniz’ goal, Wolves piled on the pressure for majority of the second half, but Fulham stood firm to claim all three point.

The win leaves Fulham on 42 points, two behind fifth place Manchester City and five behind third place Nottingham Forest, both of whom have one game in hand over the Cottagers.
