Slum Boys had previously secured a narrow 1-0 win over Wazito in their clash on February 25.
Mathare United interim coach Samuel Koko is attributing their gallant spirit that prevailed over Gor Mahia to buoyant mood generated by previous win over Wazito.
The slim 1-0 win over Wazito in their clash on February 25 instilled a defiant belief and galvanized the Slum Boys' dressing room in their survival fight. They extended their hot streak to stun K’Ogalo 2-1 in the entertaining match.
David Kibet opened the scoring for the Slum Boys in the eighth minute. Golden boy Benson Omala equalized the score in the 62nd minute but Mathare United forward Daniel Otieno had other plans.
Otieno scored in the 82nd minute to earn the team three points. They now have 16 points.
“To win a match, you need to have prepared well. The boys had the psyche because we had just won over Wazito,” Koko said.
He added that the game was not a walk in the park as they were playing against a tough opponent.
Meanwhile Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry has admitted that their outing was a disappointing one as they were keen to secure a win.
He noted that their players did not give their all in the match leading to the defeat. McKinstry also lauded Mathare for the win and observed that they played a really good game.
“Of course, we are disappointed. We were a bit flat and below our levels. Mathare really played a good game and defended well,” he said.
