Borussia Dortmund and Julian Brandt have officially agreed to a contract extension that will keep him with the team through the end of the 2025–2026 season.

Borussia Dortmund has extended Julian Brandt's contract in recognition of his outstanding play this season. The playmaker's initial contract was set to expire at the conclusion of the following campaign. He will continue to play with the Black and Yellows through the 2025–2026 season according to his new deal.

The 26-year-old is having a standout season, having nine goals and five assists in 35 games across all competitions. Brandt was also named the Bundesliga's Player of the Month for January and February.

BVB sporting director praise Brandt development

Sebastian Kehl, the sporting director at BVB, hailed Brandt for his growth over the previous year as well as the notable improvement in his defensive ability.

The sporting director at BVB says, “Julian has developed enormously over the past year, he has become much more focused in his play without the ball, regularly assists goals and shines as a scorer as well. He plays a very important role in our planning, and we are happy that he has decided to continue shaping Borussia Dortmund’s sporting future as a leading player.”

Borussia Dortmund had long been keen to extend Brandt’s contract to fend off the interest of the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Brandt happy to extend contract

Brandt emphasized his satisfaction with Borussia Dortmund and his willingness to continue helping the squad.

“Even after four years, I still have great fun every single day being part of this team, being on the pitch with my teammates and playing football for this club with its extraordinary fans. I’m looking forward to the next few years in black and yellow and I’m sure that together we’ll have the opportunity to celebrate something great.”

Julian Brandt, who moved to Borussia Dortmund from Bayer Leverkusen in 2019 for a 25 million euro price, is expected to play a significant role in the team's future plans. And his contract extension is a significant help to BVB as they strive to become a consistent Bundesliga title contender.

In other news, Robert Lewandowski becomes the latest to weigh in on Lionel Messi's future, saying he wants the World Cup winner to return to Barcelona as he would like to play with him next season.
