The Kenya U-17 national women’s team, Junior Starlets, will look to wrap up their historic FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup campaign in the Dominican Republic on a positive note as they face Mexico in their final group-stage match.
The Starlets, who are making their World Cup debut, have yet to secure a win, but remain determined to finish strong despite their exit from the tournament.
The team’s World Cup journey began with a tough 2-0 loss to England on Friday, October 18.
They followed up with a 3-0 defeat to North Korea on Sunday, October 20, which left them on the brink of elimination.

Hopes of progressing hinged on Mexico’s result against England later that day, but a 4-2 defeat for Mexico sealed the Starlets’ fate, officially knocking them out of the competition.
With one match left in the group stages, the Starlets are now focusing on ending their campaign on a high with a victory against Mexico, even as they acknowledge the tough lessons learned during their World Cup debut.
“We did our best during the campaign. If you look at our games, like the one against England, we only conceded two goals, which compared to others who let in so many goals, was commendable. We pushed ourselves and did our best,” said Starlets captain Elizabeth Ochaka via Citizen TV.
Her teammate, winger Marion Serenge, echoed similar sentiments, noting the difficulty of the tournament but highlighting the valuable experience gained.
“The journey has been good, though it has not been easy. It has been a bit tough. But I can say we have given our best, we have worked hard, and done what the coaches have told us,” Serenge said.
