Kenya U17 women’s national team, popularly known as Junior Starlets, have received major cash incentives following their World Cup qualification for the first time in history.

Kenya U17 Women’s national team players will each receive Ksh300,000 following their historic World Cup qualification.

Junior Starlets made history by becoming the first Kenyan side to qualify for a FIFA World Cup following a 5-0 aggregate win against Burundi on Sunday.

Kenya had won 3-0 in Bujumbura before a 2-0 victory at the Ulinzi Complex in Nairobi and they are set to reap big from the Talanta Hela pool after the Ministry of Sports rewarded the team with Ksh10 million for making history.

The team has shown great promise with some of the players coming from the Talanta Hela youth programme that saw Kenya take a number of teams to Spain for friendly matches early this year.

Junior Starlets have captured the attention of the country with their historic feat and there are already grand plans to ensure they have the best possible preparations before the World Cup in the Dominican Republic.

Football Kenya Federation announced that the team will have a three-week camp in Marbella, Spain in September to tune up for the global tournament, set to take place between October 16 and November 3.

The draw for the tournament is scheduled for this month and it will determine the exact groups and matchups.

Kenya, who are joined by Zambia and Nigeria by qualifying from Africa, will come up against powerhouses from Asia, like Japan and the two Koreas, who have a strong history in the tournament.

From the Americas, traditional football giants like Brazil and the USA are likely contenders while 2022 champions Spain, England and Poland are some of the potential threats from Europe.
