The Georgian international, who was instrumental in Napoli’s Serie A triumph in the 2022/23 season, had reportedly expressed a desire to leave during the summer but remained after Conte’s intervention.

Conte admitted feeling "great disappointment" at the situation, saying, “He asked the club to be sold, without mincing his words.

“This is what was said to me, the player has confirmed his decision to me. Personally, I feel very disappointed because I spent six months trying to make Kvara feel at the centre of the project.”

Negotiations between Napoli and PSG are believed to involve a potential €70 million deal, although Napoli has dismissed PSG's player-plus-cash offer involving Milan Skriniar or Marco Asensio.

Napoli to lose another hero after Osimhen departure

The Kvaratskhelia saga mirrors the challenges Conte faced with Victor Osimhen during the summer. The Nigerian forward, eager to leave Napoli, was eventually loaned to Galatasaray after being excluded from the squad.

Osimhen has thrived in Turkey, amassing 13 goals and five assists in just 16 matches, but his departure left a void in Napoli's attacking line despite the signing of Romelu Lukaku.

Reflecting on his efforts to retain key players, Conte said, “Many wanted to take other paths. I realise the news about Kvara has come out of the blue, but now I am taking a step back. I can’t keep those who want to leave tied up in chains.”
