Kakamega Homeboyz coach Patrick Odhiambo has given his opinion on reports linking his players Farouk Shikalo, Brian Eshihanda, and Moses Shummah to AFC Leopards.
Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Patrick Odhiambo is keen to hold onto his players amid reports that three of them are under the radar of AFC Leopards.
Homeboyz take on Leopards in an FKF Premier League match on Sunday and it appears it might be a scouting mission of some sort for Ingwe who have been rumoured to be tracking goalkeeper Farouk Shikalo, defender Brian Eshihanda, and striker Moses Shummah with a view to signing them in the midseason transfer window.
While he has acknowledged receipt of the reports, Odhiambo does not wish to lose any of the three who are key cogs in his team that is challenging for the title, given they are just one point behind league leaders Gor Mahia.
“There are always rumours every time a transfer window is approaching so that is normal. However, they have contracts with Homeboyz but if an offer comes, you never know so we have to wait and see,” Odhiambo told Pulse Sports.
“They are all good players and I would like to keep them in the team because we have played together for a long time and built a good understanding.”
It is not the first time Shummah and Eshihanda have been linked with moves away with the striker having reportedly attracted the interest of Gor Mahia last season.
Homeboyz chairman Cleophas Shimanyula put a ksh6 million asking price on Shumah to fend off any interest and managed to keep the player and it will be interesting to see how he handles the latest reports.
Abana Abeingo have the second-best defence in the division, having conceded 10 goals, only bettered by Gor Mahia’s seven, which is down to the work down by Shikalo, Eshihanda, and the rest of the back four while Shummah has bagged six goals so far this season, two less than the league’s top scorer Benson Omala.
Leopards are looking to strengthen their team in the January transfer window in the wake of their struggles, four months after making a host of signings that have failed to yield positive results.
Ingwe are 16th on the 18-team table with 11 points, just two ahead of bottom side Muhoroni Youth, and are seeking reinforcements in all areas with a striker top of coach Tomas Trucha’s wish list.
