Kakamega Homeboyz secured a victory over Shabana FC, positioning themselves near the top of the league standings in an exciting match.

Kakamega Homeboyz secured a 2-0 victory against Shabana FC in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) match that took place at Bukhungu Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The victory took Abana Abeingo  to the second spot on the league standings with juts a point separating them with table leaders  Gor Mahia.

Shabana on the other hand remained 16th in the standings after registering their seventh defeat of the maiden season upon returning to the top-flight league after 17 years.

The hosts attempted to gain early control of the encounter and fashioned their first real chance in the sixth minute when Hillary Otieno collected Moses Mudavadi's long throw beating Shabana defender before taking a low drive that went on target but the goalkeeper Mustapha Oduor easily collected.

While Homeboyz created more clear-cut chances, the Shabana had goal scoring opportunities of their own but failed to make the most of their attacking movements early on.

The home side looked dangerous in counter-pressing situations, which caused worrisome moments inside the Tore Bobe’s box. With 15 minutes on the clock, Abana Abeingo created notable scoring chances but were let down by inaccurate finishing.

Kakamega Homeboyz broke the deadlock in the 16th minute into the encounter from a penalty after an infringement on dangerman Moses Shumah.

The Harambee Stars striker then stepped up and made no mistake, converting from the spot and sending Shabana goalkeeper Mustapha Oduor the wrong way.

Vincent Nyabuto  was determined to put his name on the scoresheet and the 22-year-old center forward kept the Kakamega Homeboyz  defense busy with his sharp movement.

James Ssetuba was called into action on the stroke of halftime and Abana Abeingo goalkeeper denied Nyabuto with a smart save and the score was 1-0 to Kakamega Homeboyz at the interval.

Peter Odhiambo’s coached side continued to dominate in the second-half with Moses Mudavadi forcing Shabana keeper Mustapha Oduor into a save in the early stages of the second-half.

Homeboyz scored the second goal in the 53rd minute when Hillary Otieno rose high to connect with Enock Masinza's cross and headed in Abana Abeingo's second goal of the match.

Shabana should have responded with a goal on the other hand, but Brian Migiro failed to hit the target from close range with the Abana Abeingo defence exposed.

Former KCB man Enock Agwanda had to be introduced at the hour mark replacing Eugene Mukangula.

Shabana started to dominated the match, but they could not create clear cut chances with the Homeboyz  defence which was led by Enock Masinza looking solid and compact.

Agwanda tried his luck from range in the 70th minute and the forward placed his effort over the crossbar without troubling Homeboyz goalkeeper Ssetuba.

With his side under siege, Kakamega coach Patrick Odhiambo decided to introduce defender Alex Imbusia as the home side looked to contain Tore Bobe in the closing stages of the game.

Homeboyz then held their ground at the back despite being reduced to ten men after Brian Eshihanda was shown a red card in the 90th minute for slapping Shabana striker Nehemiah Onchiri outside the box. Ultimately, Abana Abeingo emerged as 2-0 winners over Shabana on the day.
