Kakamega Homeboyz rising star Moses Shummah has revealed how “unbelievable” the experience of making his debut for the Harambee Stars in their last assignment in Mauritius was.

Kenya took part in the Four Nations Tournament in Mauritius, where they played Pakistan and the host nation respectively.

Shummah made his debut against Pakistan and was on the scoresheet within the first twenty minutes. His goal proved to be all-important as Harambee Stars won 1-0.

“It was an amazing experience. At first, I was a bit skeptical about working with new guys, but I actually found out that my teammates were amazing and very welcoming, which made it easier for me to gel with them,”  Shummah told Pulse Sports.

“I could not believe it. Even after the game, I still could not believe it. It was an amazing feeling to score on my debut. I started actually believing it when we were on the plane back to Kenya!”

Kenya could not replicate the result against Mauritius, losing by the same goalline four days later. The 20-year-old started that game on the bench in favor of Gor Mahia’s Benson Omala, before getting subbed on as a second-half substitute.

Shummah tried to create chances and get involved in the game as much as possible, most notably creating a good chance for captain Michael Olunga. Although they lost, the FKF Cup winner was without a doubt one of the biggest winners of the tournament.

“It was an amazing experience to get there. I did not know that I would find myself in a situation where we would be chasing the game. I tried everything I could to get a goal. We obviously did not win, but we certainly learned from the experience. I am confident we will do well in the future.”

Shummah hopes to play a regular part in the national team in the near future. With the side set to take part in their first competitive assignment in November in the World Cup qualifiers.

“That is my prayer. I will keep working hard to impress the coach and continue being part of the team moving forwards.”
