FKFPL Kamau blames fixture congestion for Posta Rangers’ draw against KCB

Posta Rangers have drawn each of their last two league games, which dented their chances of maintaining a healthy lead over Gor Mahia at the top of the FKFPL table.

Posta Rangers head coach John Kamau has pointed to fixture congestion as the reason his team did not secure all three points against KCB in an FKF Premier League match at the Kasarani Annex on Sunday afternoon.

The Mailmen were fortunate that KCB failed to capitalize on their opportunities, as the match could have easily seen a 5-1 lead for the Bankers in the first half alone on a different day, with the game proving to be quite dynamic.

Speaking after the match, noted that his side had played against Kakamega Homeboyz only a few days prior and the subsequent travel back to Nairobi to face KCB within 72 hours may have "taken a toll" on his players.

“I will appreciate the one point ‘cause we are from Kakamega and I think from a game that took a toll on our players and I think we had very heavy legs today,” Kamau said.

“ I think from that point, I will just say that yeah, we created chances that we could have converted, and also the opponent had his own moments, but I think the last game took a toll on our players.”

Posta remained first in the league on 21 points, one ahead of Gor Mahia, who missed on a chance to go top after Kenya Police frustrated them to a 0-0 draw at the Kasarani Stadium just an hour later.

Kamau sees no reason to panic, considering his charges still have to face Gor Mahia over two legs.“We don’t have to panic because one, I think we still have a game to play against Gor Mahia, 6 points to fight for and I think it is a good race because if it opens up now, I think the league will not be very entertaining.”

The former Harambee Stars assistant coach has asked his charges to keep their cool by taking it a game at a time, but has expressed concern at the fact he will miss three key players for their next clash against AFC Leopards, including captain Kennedy Owino, who was dismissed for a daft yellow card just after the final whistle was blown.

“The most important thing is to keep our cool and my only worry is that my two centre backs are out. One with a red card - a stupid one - and we have the issue of Benard (Wasambo) being injured, so in this case that is my starting point.”

Posta Rangers will play AFC Leopards in their next league match, They sit first on 21 points.
