Shimanyula has created a reputation for being bullish ahead of the club’s games against “giant” opposition, and Kamura explains how he motivated the side to the cup win.

Kakamega Homeboyz defender Robinson Kamura has praised the club’s chairman Cleophas Shimanyula, describing him as a “tycoon” who is “very passionate” about his club.

Homeboyz lifted their maiden FKF Cup following a 1-0 win over Tusker, which will also make it the first time they play in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

Shimanyula has formed a reputation for being bullish ahead of the club’s games against “giant” opposition, and Kamura explains how he motivated the side to the cup win.

“Shimanyula is a tycoon. Before he says something, he usually always motivates us beforehand. He calculates everything to the letter. Do not think that when he speaks to the media to challenge other teams, he has not sorted things out behind the scenes.

“The chairman is very passionate about this team. He is a straight-thinker and wants what is best for the side. He will never forget this trophy and I am optimistic it is the first of many.

“He started this team in 2010. Many years ago. He goes out of his way to ensure everything is sorted out and that no one goes on strike. We got a sponsor very recently as well which goes to show the efforts he had been making before. This is a reward by God to him.”

Kamura started his career at Kariobangi Sharks, before moving to Mathare United and then AFC Leopards in 2017. At Leopards, he fell out with the coach, Patrick Aussems in 2021, which forced him to leave for KCB where he spent a season before moving to Homeboyz at the start of the season.

The 28-year old has described the situation as “ a road that cannot be soft”.

“It was a stage in my career that showed me that the road cannot always be soft. You have to pass through challenges and you have to go through them as a man and be positive all the time,” he said.

“I was able to come to Homeboyz and redeem myself through hard work and patience as well as to help others in the team.

“What I was telling my teammates given my experience is that we did not get to the final by chance. We have quality and that is why we got to the final.

“We are strong. We may have had a bad run of form in the league,  but it is only we who decided to die with one trophy. It is not that we were not good enough in the league.

“Winning this title and then representing the country in the Confederation Cup cannot make you regret.. This is a chance to sell our country’s football.”
