On Thursday, Nawamba was inspecting the soon-to-be-closed Bukhungu Stadium, accompanied by Kakamega county boss Fernandes Baraza as the country continues its preparations for the upcoming African Nations Championships which will reportedly take place in East Africa in 2024.

The CS has now confirmed that no activity will be taking place at the Kasarani Stadium while the procedure to upgrade it goes on, including the annual Kipkeino classic, which will now have to take place at another arena.
“You know for instance we have closed Kasarani Stadium already, and so international events like the Kipchoge Keino classic, which is an international event, we have had to find an alternative venue for it (Nyayo Stadium),” Namwamba said.
“All teams that use Kasarani for their home Kenyan Premier League games have had to be relocated to alternative venues because that stadium is going to be inaccessible for at least 16-18 months as we seek to completely upgrade it and overhaul it.”

“I would also urge the teams that use Bukhungu Stadium for football and other activities to make a sacrifice knowing that at the end of the day, they will return to play in a good facility and better environment,” Namwamba added.
Baraza also stressed the importance of both his and the national government working together to ensure it will be ready by the time the tournament is approaching.
