KCB secured a huge victory over Kakamega Homeboyz, with goals from Wesonga and Kahiro in a crucial FKFPL clash.

KCB  FC overcame Kakamega Homeboyz 2-0 in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) midweek clash played at Bukhungu Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Kakamega Homeboyz were hoping to return to winning ways in the league having drawn 1-1 with Gor Mahia  at home last weekend.

Benard Mwalala decided to name an unchanged team as the Bankers looked to get their second win of the season.

KCB got off to a flying start and claimed the lead inside the opening  ten minutes  with a high press allowing Hilary Otieno to latch onto a loose ball and tee up Hanif Wesonga , who volleyed home on his left foot for 1-0.

Homeboyz went on to build some solid attacking pressure, with David Kasirye particularly penetrative cutting inside from the left channel, though too often the team in gold and black lacked the necessary precision to trouble goalkeeper Bryne Omondi.

One such example arrived just past the half-hour mark when Hilary Otieno got on the end of a cross from Farouk Musisi but failed to find the target, while  Moses Mudavadi was achingly close a short while later, as the visitors continued their search for an equaliser.

The first half closed with Homeboyz having enjoyed most of the attacking play, especially in the lead up to the interval, but KCB remained 1-0 to the good.

Homeboyz edged the home team to the ball during the early exchanges of the second-half but provided little threat going forward.

However, KCB looked threatening while going forward as the likes of Apollo Otieno and Musa Masika  linked up well inside the Homeboyz half. Nevertheless, Bernard Mwalala’s charges struggled to cap off their attacking moves and were let down by their finishing in the final third.

Kakamega remained in possession of the ball at the 75th minute mark, while KCB were reduced to hitting the home team on the break.

KCB doubled their lead in the 79th minute when substitute and birthday boy  Francis Kahiro found himself in space inside the box at the far post and produced a clinical finish to make it 2-0.

Abana Abeingo's last close-shave in attack came in the 89th minute when substitute Ranga Chivaviro sent an acrobatic volley just over the crossbar, allowing  KCB to claim victory.
