Looking ahead to their rematch against Abu Salem at the St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende, Traguil emphasized the need for a shift in mentality to avoid repeating past mistakes.
KCCA FC head coach Sergio Traguil has opened up on his frustration at the way his side lost their CAF Confederations Cup first leg meeting against Libya’s Abu Salem last Sunday.
The Spaniard did not mince his words in his pre-match press conference ahead of the second leg, as he labelled the way they handled the game, saying that they lost the game due to several ‘silly mistakes’ which will not be acceptable.
Traguil's side had a week to address their shortcomings, but their spirits were further dampened by a 1-0 defeat to BUL FC in their first league game of the season.
Looking ahead to their rematch against Abu Salem at the St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende, Traguil emphasized the need for a shift in mentality to avoid repeating past mistakes.
"First, we need to go with another kind of mentality. Because in the first leg, we did some silly mistakes, that is the mentality," Traguil told the media during the pre-game press conference.
"I think the boys were under some different kind of pressure. I think we were on top of the game when we suffered that silly first goal.”
“That goal completely brought our strategy down. So, the thing is let's not make the same mistakes," he added.
Traguil revealed that they've been diligently working on rectifying their issues throughout the week.
"In the defensive transition, I have tried to change it a little bit so that we are more compact, and in attack, we want to be more dangerous,” he explained.
“So, we don't have to repeat the same silly mistakes like we did in Tunisia," Traguil stated.
Young striker Abubaker Mayanja’s goal gave the Kasasiro Boys a lifeline, coming after the side had already conceded three times already.
KCCA will have a mountain to climb if they are to progress to the group stages of the competition, but they need to ensure that they win by a two-goal margin.
