FUFA has suspended Congolese striker Tsishungu Kankonde for punching FIFA referee Mashoud Ssali after KCCA FC's 1-0 loss to Vipers in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
FUFA has suspended KCCA FC striker Tsishungu Kankonde for eight games after being found guilty of assaulting centre referee Mashoud Ssali after the Kasasiro’s 1-0 loss to Vipers in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League last Friday.
Towards the end of the game, the Congolese approached Ssali and appeared to have punched him as he protested alleged poor officiating.
The referee issued him a red card after the game, meaning he was supposed to sit out two games.
Non-remorseful
The FUFA Competitions Disciplinary Panel has added a further six-match suspension and a fine of shs.1 million to the player after finding him guilty of the offence.
The tough measures were instituted after the Congolese failed to show remorse in his submissions, contrary to the evidence produced from the videos from the match.
“The committee put into consideration Kankonde’s written response which he filed on 8th May 2023, wherein he appears non-remorseful and denies the allegations against him contrary to the match report and the match day video,” the CDP said.
Verdict
“…in addition to the automatic suspension by the match official, a further suspension of six FUFA SUPL matches for breach of Article 31 of the FUFA Competition Rules,” FUFA announced on Wednesday.
Article 31.5(e ) of the Rules provides for a “Suspension or a ban not exceeding ten competition matches or specified period for Physical Contact or Attempted Physical Contact at the official causing no injury and/or attempts to make physical contact with the official.
“The player shall miss a total of the next eight physically played games after match 130 VIPERS SC Vs KCCA FC. The above sanction is effective immediately and shall be carried forward to the next SUPL season of 2023/2024 until the conclusion of the same,” the verdict reads.
That means that KCCA FC can only use Kankonde after the fifth match of next season.
The striker has scored only four goals and provided two assists for the club this season.
