CECAFA will now take place from July 25th to August 7th in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.
The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) has shifted the inaugural U-18 Women’s Championship from Kenya to Tanzania.
The tournament was initially scheduled for June 29th to July 11th in Nairobi, Kenya but will now take place from July 25th to August 7th in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.
The CECAFA executive director Auka Gecheo confirmed the development on Monday morning through their portal.
CECAFA confirmed that the tournament was delayed to occur as scheduled due to financial constraints.
“Kenya was meant to host the Championship from June 29th to July 11th in Nairobi, but the competition was pushed further ahead because of delay in funding,” CECAFA revealed.
Kenya out
The body is anticipating seven teams to participate in the tournament, including hosts Tanzania, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, and Zanzibar.
Kenya has been ruled out due to a tight schools schedule in their local scene.
“Kenya will not take part in the Championship because of ongoing school games and later examinations around the same period,” the release confirmed.
The tournament will be hosted at the Chamazi Stadium.
