Kenya's sudden withdrawal from the CECAFA U-15 Boys Championship 2023 leaves fans disappointed as eight other nations prepare to compete.

The Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) has announced a stunning turn of events in the lead-up to the CECAFA U-15 Boys Championship 2023  which is set to be hosted next month in Uganda.

Kenya who were among the nine nations that were set to participate in the tournament has regrettably pulled out of the tournament, leaving a void in the lineup of participating nations.

The revelation came during draw made on Tuesday for the championship, scheduled to take place from November 4th to November 16th in Njeru, Uganda.

In a statement posted on the CECAFA website, it was revealed, "Kenya notified CECAFA that they will not be able to send a team for the Championship. Kenya now joins other Member Associations Sudan, Burundi, and Eritrea who are unable to enter teams."

This startling decision from Kenya now places them in the company of other Member Associations, including Sudan, Burundi, and Eritrea, who are also unable to enter teams into the tournament.

The last CECAFA U-15 Championship, held in Asmara, Eritrea in 2019, saw Uganda emerging victorious after defeating Kenya in a thrilling final.

The absence of Kenya in this year's championship leaves football enthusiasts disappointed, as they will miss the opportunity to witness a rematch of these two formidable teams.

Auka Gecheo emphasized the importance of such competitions in the region.

"We expect to have a very competitive competition and we are using the competition to prepare our youngsters ahead of the AFCON U-17 Zonal qualifiers next year," he said.

The tournament was seen as an ideal opportunity to prepare the rising stars of East and Central African football for future international competitions.

Despite Kenya's unexpected absence, the championship will continue with the participation of the remaining eight teams.

The draw for the championship has placed the teams into two groups:

CECAFA U-15 Draw

Group A : Uganda, Ethiopia, Djibouti, South Sudan

Group B : Tanzania, Zanzibar, Somalia, Rwanda
