Kenyan players have missed out on Tanzanian Premier League awards nominations but the former Harambee Starlets and Sofapaka coach is shortlisted for coach of the Season.

Kenyan players in Tanzania have been left disappointed as they missed out on nominations for the NBC Premier League 2023 awards.

The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) revealed the shortlisted players and officials who will be honored in a virtual awards ceremony broadcast on Azam TV on August 1, 2024.

The nominations span several categories including best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, young player, top scorer, footballer of the season, players’ player of the season, and coach of the season.

Despite the presence of several Kenyan players in the Tanzanian Premier League such as Duke Abuya and Elvis Rupia none were nominated.

However, there is a silver lining for Kenya in the nominations.

Kenyan coach David Ouma has been named in the coach of the season category.

Ouma, who has had a significant impact since joining Coastal Union, will compete for the award against Bruno Ferry of Azam FC and Miguel Gamondi of Yanga.

Ouma guided Coastal Union to a fourth-place finish in the Tanzanian Premier League, securing them a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup where they will face Angolan side F.C. Bravos do Maquis.

His achievements are noteworthy, considering the competitive nature of the league and the challenges that come with managing a team in a foreign country.

David Ouma's journey in the Tanzanian Premier League began at the start of the season when he took on the role of head coach at Coastal Union.

His appointment marked a new chapter in his coaching career, which has been characterized by dedication and resilience.

Ouma's coaching career in Tanzania followed his stint at Sofapaka, a club he rejoined in 2021 just three days after stepping down as the head coach of Harambee Starlets.

During his time at Sofapaka, Ouma served in various capacities, showcasing his commitment to the club's development.

His tenure at the club included stepping in as head coach in 2022 after Ken Odhiambo's departure due to a series of disappointing results.

Ouma's ability to turn around the team's fortunes and lead them to respectable finishes has earned him respect and admiration in the Kenyan football community.
