Omurwa and his teammates had to endure another defeat just seven days after being overran by Benfica.

Johnstone Omurwa played for 66 minutes as Estrela Amaradora lost their second league game in a row 1-0 against Estoril on Sunday evening.

Omurwa had to be subbed off in the 66th minute for Andre Luiz shortly after they had gone a goal down as Sergio Vieira tried in vain to find an equaliser.

The former Mathare United and Wazito defender did however have a good game before being subbed off, making three tackles and interceptions, winning two of his four ground duels while also being imperious in the air.

Matteus Fernandes scored the only goal for Estoril to ultimately give them the victory.

Omurwa has been an integral part of Estrela’s defence.

He has predominantly featured on the right side of their defence, making 11 league appearances, nine of which have been starts.

He has made a combined 2.7 tackles and interceptions per 90 minutes, as well as made 4.5 ball recoveries per match. He averagely wins 3.4 total duels a match.

Omurwa is also very active in possession. FBRef puts him in the 92nd percentile for carries from the back, and in the 86th one for take-ons, showing his willingness to launch attacks from the back.

Omurwa's ability to read the game, make crucial tackles, and contribute offensively has made him a player to watch

His impact in the friendly against Qatar, where he played the full 90 minutes, was particularly notable, helping Kenya secure a 2-1 victory.

Omurwa's potential for a long and successful career is evident as his rise to prominence is a story of hard work and dedication, and his performances in 2023 have solidified his status as a key player in both his club and national team.
