Kenyan striker Irene Madalina is set to join Tanzanian Yanga Princess after impressing at Bunyore Starlets

Kenyan international Irene Madalina is on the brink of a career-defining transfer to Tanzanian giants Yanga Princess.

This move places her in the expanding roster of Kenyan female footballers seeking opportunities beyond their national borders.

Madalina, a prominent figure in the Football Kenya Federation Women's Premier League with Bunyore Starlets, landed in Dar-es-Salaam last Sunday to commence trials with Yanga Princess.

The team recently made headlines by signing another Kenyan international, Janet Bundi.

Zachariah Amakhanga, the manager of Bunyore Starlets, confirmed the news, dispelling rumors about a finalized contract.

"It's true that we have officially released Madalina to join Yanga Princess on trials. The report doing round on social media that she has penned a two-year contract with the side is not true. Yanga wrote to us requesting her for trials, with an option of acquiring her services if she impresses them," Amakhanga explained as per Citizen Digital.

This development is a bittersweet moment for Bunyore Starlets.

"Of course, it’s a big blow to the club considering that she has been one of our best players, not only at the club level but also in the national team, Harambee Starlets. Landing a greener pasture is a milestone for any player,” Amakhanga acknowledged.

Bunyore is currently in the eighth position on the KWPL log, trailing league leaders Vihiga Queens by 13 points.

Their upcoming match against Police Bullets FC at Mumboha Grounds is crucial, as a victory could propel them to fifth place in the league.

Hailing from Ikolomani, Kakamega County, Madalina's journey in football is one of determination and skill.

The youngest of three children, she was born to Phelistus Khatiala and Arthur Amwayi Imbuka.

Her physical attributes, standing at 5ft 7 inches, make her an ideal fit for a striker in the women's league.

Madalina's educational background includes Shiveye Primary and Shiveye Secondary.

Her football journey took a significant turn in November 2022, when she joined the FKFWPL outfit mid-season. Remarkably, she emerged as the top scorer, an impressive feat for a mid-season entrant.

Besides her traditional role as a striker in position 9, Madalina is adept at playing on both attacking wings. This adaptability is partly due to her ambidextrous abilities, though she primarily uses her right foot.

Last season, her striking prowess was evident as she finished at the top of the striker's tally with 18 goals.
