Tanzanian side Singida Fountain Gate FC have offloaded Kenyan players Elvis Rupia, Duke Abuya and Joash Onyango, less than five months after signing them

Tanzania moneybags Singida Fountain Gate have dumped Kenyan players Elvis Rupia, Duke Abuya, and Joash Onyango, less than five months after signing them.

The three Kenyans were among seven players the club offloaded in the January transfer window as it looks to cut down on a bloated squad.

Rupia, Abuya, and Onyango have all joined rivals Ihefu FC who paid big bucks to acquire them after learning of their availability.

It is a dramatic and short end to their spells in Singida after joining on big money and with great promise at the start of this season.

Onyango was the first to join Singida when he signed on loan from Simba SC last July before Abuya followed after ditching Kenya Police.

Rupia would follow them to Singida, also from Kenya Police, in September as the club showed a great ambition, promising to win the league.

However, just under five months since they made their debut for the club, they have now become surplus to requirements and have been offloaded over what the club terms a financial decision.

“It was heard to convince the coach to let them go because they are big and quality players but we had to do it,” Singida spokesman Hussein Masanza told Pulse Sports.

“Even Simba wanted some of them but Ihefu came with a big offer and we took the opportunity.”

It marks another chapter in the careers of the three Kenyans who had been impressive so far for Singida.

While Onyango had not been a regular starter, Abuya and Rupia have been a big hit with the fans, winning man of the match awards on multiple occasions but it seems that was still not enough.

Rupia recently shone at the Mapinduzi Cup where he was the top scorer with five goals.
