FC Talanta have now gone six league matches without registering a win in their quest to survive relegation.

FC Talanta head coach Ken Kenyatta has gone ultra-defensive of his team when probed about why the side have gone on a run of six consecutive matches without a win following their draw with Kenya Police on Saturday.

Talanta have not won a league match since mid-March when they beat Bidco United, and are 15th on 28 points after 29 matches played, six points above the relegation places.

The gaffer insisted that the side was full of many young players “plucked out of obscure clubs playing friendly matches” and had no experience in the top flight.

“This team is full of young players,” he said. “A lot of my players left for greener pastures and I could not sign new players given the circumstances we had,” he added.

“A Lot of my players have not played in the top flight before. My shot-stopper (Kevin Otieno) was playing friendlies (for his previous club Leeds United ). The kid I subbed on, December (Kisailah) was signed from the national division two. The striker I subbed on (Leon Ombiji) also came from Leeds United.

“These players have little to no experience in the Premier League. It is a plus for them and for me because they have not taken part in a lot of competitive leagues.”

Kenyatta was quick to point out that his charges did well to hold a largely experienced and “extravagantly assembled” Kenya Police to a 0-0 draw.

“Look at a team like Kenya Police. They are extravagantly assembled with players that have played for Harambee Stars and are vastly experienced. My team is good. With more time, My players will become warriors and from there, we will separate the raw from the ripe!”

Kenyatta also aimed digs at Nairobi City Stars for plucking some of his players away from him in the mid-season transfer window.

“ This is the top flight league and I am having to play players that I plucked from obscurity in the lower divisions. City Stars took my players away from me. The moment they manage to find some cohesion , it will be difficult for any team to beat me!”

The former Ushuru FC tactician insisted he will continue working with what he had, but his team will soon bounce back.

“For now, I will work with what I have and I have no regrets whatsoever. You cannot take a kid straight from class eight to form four because there are some things that will pass him by and he has to go through all the stretches!”
