The top-of-the-table Uganda Premier League clash between Kitara FC and BUL FC played out to a barren stalemate at the Masindi Stadium, on Friday.

While it had been hugely anticipated, it quite failed deliver to the billing as it shied from fluidity and goalscoring opportunities from either side.

In the end, Kitara stayed top with 44 points after 22 games, while BUL follow in second with 40 points.

The hosts' best first-half chance fell to Living Kabon whose well-taken freekick was met a brilliant Joel Mutakubwa diving save.

That came before BUL threatened, but Ronald Otti headed wide a well-weighted freekick from Emmanuel Obua.

In the second half, Kitara tried to probe for a goal in the 50th minute, but Denis Omedi struck inches wide.

The result gives both fourth-placed SC Villa and fifth side Vipers SC hope in the title charge, as the two have played three games fewer than Kitara and BUL.

In fourth, Villa have amassed 36 points, while Vipers have accumulated 35 in19 matches.

In the other game on the day, third-placed NEC FC were beaten by Wakiso Giants FC 1-0 at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, courtesy of Kenneth Kimera's sole goal.

NEC stayed on 37 points after 22 games, while Wakiso Giants moved to 26 points as they sit 11th on the 16-team table.
