St. Mary’s Kitende won the 2023 East African School games after overcoming Amus College 4-2 in penalty mark kicks that followed a 1-all draw in the finals played in Huye, Rwanda on Sunday.

Fazil Tumwine put Kitende in the driving seat in the ninth minute after burying in a rebounder inside a goal-line melee.

Hakim Mutebi had delivered an inviting corner kick which Ronald Madoi headed, but the keeper blocked it but fell on Tumwine’s path for a one-touch finish.

USSSA national most valuable player once again showed his class with a classical finish in the 27th-minute level at the break.

Both sides had pockets of chances in the second half, but none was able to find the net, forcing the game to be decided on spot kicks.

Kitende went on to win 4-2 to extend their record to 14 titles.

Derrick Kato, Johnson Kabagambe, Madoi and Rogers Torach made no mistake converting for Kitende while Amos Ayikobua and Oyirwoth’s efforts for Amus didn’t count for much as their teammates Brian Toto and Shafiq Wassagwa missed their kicks.

In the earlier game, defending champions Kibuli SS beat St. aHenry’s Kitovu 2-1 to console themselves with a bronze as Uganda completed a clean sweep.
