Kiyovu SC, home to Ugandans Erisa Ssekisambu and Muzamiru Mutyaba, went into the final match day needing to win against Rustiro and hoped that APR lost to Gorilla FC, but it wasn’t to be.

As was the case in Uganda less than 48 hours ago, the Rwanda Premier League was also decided on the final day, with army side APR FC and Kiyovu SC all in contention.

Kiyovu SC, home to Ugandans Erisa Ssekisambu and Muzamiru Mutyaba, went into the final match day needing to win against Rustiro and hoped that APR lost to Gorilla FC, but it wasn’t to be.

Ssekisambu’s side started on the back foot, going a goal down with Rutsiro taking the lead in the 28th minute, but the Ugandan international levelled the score at the stroke of halftime; it was his eighth for the campaign.

After the break, Kiyovu took a commanding lead, scoring twice to take a 3-1 lead, and they would later see it out and win; however, APR was also precisely doing the same.

They picked up a 2-1 win over Gorilla FC and ended the season on 63 points, level with Kiyovu SC but with a superior goal difference.

The army side, the most successful in the Rwanda Premier League, clinched the 21st league title in the club’s history.

Rayon Sports, home to another Ugandan pair in Joachim Ojera and Musa Esenu, managed a third-place finish on 61 points, signing out of the season with a 1-0 win over Sunrise.

In a related development, Denis Rukundo's AS Kigali signed out with a 2-1 loss to Samuel Kato Nemeyimana's Bugesera FC.
