The move follows Petros Koukouras's appointment as the new head coach at Kiyovu last month, with the Greek keen on previously working with Zungu during his time in Uganda.

Hassan Zungu is set to embark on a new professional journey, joining Rwanda's Kiyovu Sports Club as an assistant coach, Pulse Sports understands.

The move follows Petros Koukouras's appointment as the new head coach at Kiyovu last month, with the Greek keen on previously working with Zungu during his time in Uganda.

Koukouras is said to have recommended Zungu to be appointed as his assistant at SC Villa before the club ultimately decided to appoint Jackson Magera.

Zungu, who served as the second assistant at the army-affiliated Gadaffi FC in the first round of the 2022/23 season, was later promoted to first assistant following George Lutalo's move to Kitara FC.

His move to Kiyovu was foreshadowed by almost being appointed head coach at second-division side Jinja North United, but the club ultimately opted for Sadiq Ssempigi.

The new Kiyovu deputy is set to work with former SC Villa head coach Koukouras, marking a comeback for the latter a year after being let go by the Uganda Premier League outfit.

Koukouras, who spent the 2021/22 season with Villa before parting ways at the start of the just-concluded season, replaces Alain Andre Landert at Kiyovu following Landert's recent resignation.

Kiyovu is no stranger to Ugandan talent, having previously housed Uganda Cranes captain Emmanuel Okwi between 2021 and 2022. This legacy includes Muzamiru Mutyaba, who joined Kiyovu after leaving Express in 2021.

Erisa Ssekisambu also had a stint at Kiyovu, despite being released by the club, he managed to end his tenure as the top scorer, netting 10 goals.

Kiyovu finished second in the 2022/23 Rwanda Premier League season. Despite finishing level on points with champions APR (63), it was a disappointing season for the club.
