The West Ham defender will appear in court today alongside his brother over footage emerged of him kicking his pet-cat in February

West Ham center back Kurt Zouma, has faced a public backlash after a clip of him kicking his bengal cat in his mansion was revealed by The Sun earlier this year.

The 27-year-old France international is now set to appear in court today, after being prosecuted by the RSPCA under the Animal Welfare Act.

Zouma will make an appearance at Thames Magistrates’ Court today alongside brother Yoan.

The Hammers star is charged with three counts under the act, while Yoan - who was temporarily suspended by Dagenham & Redbridge, faces two offence counts.

Zouma had continued to play for West Ham but was often times booed by away fans and his own supporters as well.

West Ham coach David Moyes, had admitted that he understood the criticism he faced for continuing to select the French international, stating that what the player had done was "terrible".

However, Moyes chose to stand by his defender in the wake of the animal cruelty saga.

Zouma was fined £250,000 - two weeks' wages - for the attack and issued a passionate apology insisting his cats were both fine and healthy.

He had both of his cats seized by the RSPCA and was also dropped by sponsors - Adidas and Vitality UK.

West Ham had also put out a statement after he was charged, condemning his act and also assuring authorities of his willingness to co-operate with the investigation.
