Lagos Street Soccer championship: Onigbongbo LCDA bids to host grand finale

Lagos Street Soccer championship will kick off in October.

Ahead of the kick off of the Lagos Street Soccer championship, the Executive Chairman of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Oladotun Olakanle, has unveiled its plan to host the grand finale of the championship.

Olakanle indicated the interest in hosting the 2023 Lagos Street Soccer championship finals while receiving the Lagos Street Soccer committee led by its chairman, Bolaji Yusuf, in his office.

During his address to the delegation, Olakanle stated that the two football centers strategically positioned within the LCDA are acceptable venues for such a large event.

According to him, the LCDA is dedicated to continue improving the facilities based on technical recommendations made by the committee when inspecting the sports centers in order to increase their prospects of hosting the final.

Winners emerge at HRA Youth Cup

The HRA Youth Cup Finals was held at the Femi Gbajabiamila Stadium in Abalti Barracks to complete seven weeks of intense competition among the youths in Lagos.

Olakanle stated that it was only natural for the LCDA to promote the tournament because it provides a means of engaging the state's teeming youth.

He expressed gratitude to the Lagos Street Soccer delegation for their visit. He stated that their duty to resurrect street soccer in Lagos state is a noble task capable of building togetherness among the state's tribes, faiths, and political leanings. He pledged his unwavering support to the Yusuf-led committee.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, Lagos Street Soccer Committee chairman Bolaji Yusuf praised Olakanle's efforts in sports since his election as LCDA chairman. Before giving the hosting rights to one of the prospective bidders, he pledged that his team will visit the facilities and make recommendations.

"The Lagos Street Soccer Championship has returned. Our mandate is to resurrect and improve specific areas as grassroots football makes a comeback," Yusuf explained.

The visit is part of a strategy to reach out to key stakeholders and partners ahead of the October 2023 start date. The 2023 edition will have more than 1,000 Teams.
