Barcelona's latest efforts to re-register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor have been rejected by LALIGA.

LALIGA and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have released a joint statement announcing their decision to deny Barcelona's latest proposal to re-register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.

What happened

As Pulse Sports reported, the Blaugrana signed the duo in the summer transfer window but could not register them as they did not have enough space in their wage bill.

They eventually entered both players into the system, after an injury to Andreas Christensen allowed them to temporarily register the duo. However, with the return of the former Chelsea star, Barcelona had to find a new solution.

The Blaugrana hierarchy failed to find the answer before the deadline on December 31st, and despite meeting the financial requirements now, their proposal was turned down.

The statement

LALIGA and RFEF acknowledged Barcelona's proposal and agreed that they met the financial requirements to register both players. However, they rejected the request due to the Spanish football rule that prevents a team from re-registering a player whose licence has been revoked in the same season.

“The Monitoring Committee of the LALIGA-RFEF Coordination Agreement has met to address the request for a prior visa and processing of the federation licenses of the players Mr. Daniel Olmo Carvajal and Mr. Pau Víctor Delgado, issued by FC Barcelona,” the statement began.

“Following compliance by FCB with the requirements regarding LALIGA’s financial control on 3 January 2025 and the Club completing the relevant documentation, LALIGA’s Budget Validation Body has decided to extend the FCB Sports Squad Cost Limit from the aforementioned date.”

“In this regard, having been requested the licenses for the referred players by FC Barcelona, after analysis of the applicable federation regulations, the Monitoring Committee agrees not to grant the prior visa, nor the definitive license requested by FC Barcelona for the players Mr. Daniel Olmo Carvajal and Mr. Pau Víctor Delgado in accordance with the literal interpretation of articles 130.2 and 141.5 of the General Regulations of the RFEF that prevent a player whose license is cancelled, from being able to obtain a license in the same club team to which he was already linked, during the course of the same season.”

According to reports, Barcelona are not giving up, and will will seek redress in a court of law. They have previously taken the regulators to court before the deadline and lost.
