The Spanish top division believes Kenya can be an ideal place for LALIGAclubs to tune up ahead of new seasons

LALIGA East Africa representative Alvaro Abreu has revealed plans to have Spanish top-flight teams visit Kenya in the future to take part in friendly matches as part of the league’s commitment to developing grassroots football in Kenya and across Africa.

The Spanish top-flight division announced a partnership with video gaming company EA Sports, which will see the company possess the league’s naming rights after ending its contract with world football governing body FIFA, to produce the popular football video game series.

Speaking after LALIGA HYPERMOTION side Deportivo Leganes president Jeff Luhnow held a press conference in Kenya, Abreu confirmed that plans were in place to come up with new strategies that will see young Kenyan players benefit from LALIGAs grassroots football development programme

“I think it has been something unique. We have been able to share new videos and strategies on what you expect for the new season thanks to our new title sponsor EA Sports,” Abreu said.

“There are many features that can make broadcast matches better. We have brought something unique by bringing for the first time a club to have a press conference directly with the Kenyan media and express completely their insights and the vision for the territory.

“Thank you very much to Deportivo Leganes for creating this strategy which is important ahead of the new season.”

The partnership between Leganes and National Super League (NSL) side Rainbow FC will see Kenyans earn a chance to make moves abroad with the country also set to benefit from data analytics among other benefits.

LALIGA also confirmed that they are in talks to introduce a female league in Nairobi that will hinge more on educational and development aspects.

Abreu has asked Kenyans to be excited given LALIGA’s growing commitment to helping raise East African football from the ashes.

“For us and for me, I will work very hard to try and facilitate the introduction in the market. From the way they have been talking, it looks very likely you will see more of them in the future with some pre-season matches and some different campaigns for us. It is very exciting ahead.

“We have mentioned something we are very excited about, which is the East Africa La Liga tournament. We managed to involve the delegation of Tanzania and the delegation of Kenya to do a tournament in terms of grassroots for U15 boys and U17 girls.

“Our U17 girls from Ligi Ndogo won the tournament in Nairobi, so we will continue making this programme even better by involving more countries like Uganda, Ethiopia and even Rwanda which is one of our main plans to be a reference in grassroots development which is one of our key strategies to develop this season.”
