Lamine Yamal has let slip his birthday wish ahead of Spain’s Euro 2024 final against England

The teenager scored for the first time at the European Championship to become the competition’s youngest goalscorer (16 years, 362 days), supplanting Johan Vonlanthen's record (18 years, 141 days) as he found the back of the net from distance against France in the semi-final.

A Dani Olmo goal four minutes later turned the game around for Luis de la Fuente’s men after Randal Kolo Muani's ninth-minute goal, seeing La Furia Roja advance to the decider on July 14 at the Olympiastadion.

What is Yamal’s birthday wish?

Spain’s teenage sensation, who celebrates his 17th birthday a day before the final, had set up three goals before his incredible effort against Didier Deschamps’ side and he revealed a conversation with his mother ahead of the celebration.

“I've told my mother that if we win I don't want anything as a gift,” he told Marca. “I just want to celebrate it in Madrid with my classmates. And that's it.”

The 17-year-old then stated his Euro 2024 ambition against England, with Spain aiming to clinch a first European crown since 2012.

“Winning a European Championship is something crazy that hasn't been done since 2012,” he continued. “Winning it would fill us with euphoria.”

What comes next?

Spain seek a fourth European title at Euro 2024 when they take on England in Berlin on Sunday. The Three Lions are chasing a first triumph at the continental showpiece.
