Yamal's father Mounir Nasraoui was stabbed after a dispute with members of his neighbourhood.

Lamine Yamal's father, Mounir Nasraoui, has spoken out for the first time after being brutally stabbed in his neighbourhood.

In his first public statement since being the victim of a violent attack, Mounir Nasraoui, the father of Spanish teenage football sensation Lamine Yamal, has described the terrifying ordeal of being stabbed multiple times in a car park near Barcelona.

Nasraoui, who was assaulted in his hometown of Mataro on Wednesday night, has been recovering in Can Ruti Hospital following the brutal incident.

Nasraoui, 35, suffered multiple stab wounds during a confrontation that erupted after an argument with a group of individuals earlier in the day.

The altercation began when Nasraoui was walking his dog and escalated later in the evening. He was rushed to intensive care but has since been moved to a regular ward, where his condition is reported to be stable.

In a heartfelt interview from his hospital bed with Spanish program El Chiringuito, Nasraoui recounted the harrowing experience, admitting he was “scared for his life” during the attack.

“Thank God, I have been moved to a normal ward and I am feeling a bit better,” he said. “I must remain calm for the sake of my family and myself. We need to trust that justice will take its course. I was afraid, seeing myself between life and death. It was a terrifying experience, like any human being would feel in such a situation.”

The attack on Nasraoui has shocked the local community and the wider football world.

His son, Lamine Yamal, the 17-year-old Barcelona and Spain star, was seen visiting his father at the hospital before resuming his training sessions.

The young footballer, who recently celebrated Spain’s victory at Euro 2024, has been a source of support for his father during the difficult time.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta and Yamal’s representatives also visited Nasraoui, expressing solidarity and support.

Nasraoui’s brother has maintained constant communication with Yamal, offering additional family support during this distressing period.

The attack occurred after Nasraoui had been heckled and harassed by several individuals earlier in the day.

A video capturing the incident shows Nasraoui being led away by a man before speaking to police officers. The violence later that evening resulted in Nasraoui being attacked in a car park.

Spanish authorities have arrested three suspects on charges of attempted murder, with a fourth individual also detained.

The regional Mossos d’Esquadra police force is continuing its investigation into the incident. They are examining whether the confrontation was premeditated or if the suspects encountered Nasraoui by chance.

Mounir Nasraoui, originally from Morocco, moved to Spain at the age of nine and later became a prominent figure in his son’s life.

His support for Lamine Yamal has been visible, including celebrating Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph on the pitch.

His presence in Mataro, where Yamal was raised, has always been a point of pride for the young footballer, who frequently honors his hometown with his signature ‘304’ celebration.
