The 180th Rome Derby was decided by a single goal as Mattia Zaccagni secured all three points for Lazio to take them into second with a 1-0 win, opening up a five-point gap over their bitter City rivals AS Roma
How it happened
The game began at a frantic pace with both sides fighting to gain control of proceedings.
Georginio Wijnaldum fired narrowly over for Roma and only a smart stop from Rui Patrício denied Felipe Anderson from giving Lazio the lead.
Roma suffered a huge blow on the half-hour mark as Roger Ibanez who had already been booked early on, made a rash decision to foul Sergej Milinkovic-Savic on the counter and was handed his second yellow card.
Second half action
Roma began the second half looking to as they ended the first, on the back foot and almost went behind. Rui Patricio needed to be alert to deny Pedro from close range.
On 65 minutes, Lazio found the breakthrough as Mattia Zaccagni curled home a splendid effort past the outstretched Patricio.
Roma pushed forward in search of an equaliser but Lazio who have kept 15 clean sheets this season, kept the door shut.
This win moves Lazio into second place and Roma stay fifth as the race for Champions League football heats up.
