Baller of the Week: Osimhen beats Super Eagles teammate who dethroned him
Nigeria Super Eagles and Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen returns as the Naija Stars Abroad's Baller of the Week after an impressive performance at the weekend.
Osimhen, currently on loan from Napoli, has made a significant impact in just a short time at Galatasaray, scoring 12 goals and providing four assists in just 15 matches since joining the Turkish club three months ago.
Taiwo noted that Osimhen has regained his form and is ready to compete at a higher level again. He also highlighted how several teams actively seek to strengthen their attacking options and that Osimhen should be a priority for clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea, or Arsenal.
"Victor has returned to his best level and is ready to return to the major championships,” Taiwo stated, per Africafoot. “Several teams are looking to bolster their offence, and he should be at the top of their list.”
Osimhen's journey to Galatasaray was marked by a difficult summer, where he faced challenges at Napoli under new coach Antonio Conte.
After failing to secure a transfer to either Saudi Arabia or Chelsea, he found himself frozen out of the team before making the switch to Turkey.
Despite these setbacks, he quickly became a fan favourite at Rams Park, playing a decisive role in Galatasaray's success this season so far.
But Taiwo wants to see his fellow countryman compete amongst the best in the world and has urged him to seize the opportunities.
“At the moment, the market is more favourable than in the summer, and Napoli is willing to sell,” he added. “If Manchester United, Chelsea or Arsenal approach him, he should seize the opportunity.”
Meanwhile, according to this Pulse Sports report, United’s new coach Ruben Amorim appears to be an Osimhen admirer after reports that he has asked the club to sign the forward.
In line with Taye’s demand, Amorim has reportedly named Osimhen as his main transfer target for the January transfer window as he looks to rebuild the struggling Red Devils.
Despite United’s interest, the Red Devils are not the only European giants keeping their eyes on Osimhen. Chelsea, PSG, and Arsenal have also been linked with a potential move for the Napoli icon.
With his current form and growing reputation, Taiwo believes that now is the perfect time for Osimhen to return to Europe's elite leagues and continue his career progression.
