Leicester City were looking to halt a run of eight games without a win when they turned up against Bournemouth in what was effectively a relegation six-pointer.

The game was a cagey affair in the open exchanges, with neither team giving much away, however, the 26-year-old handed the Cherries a gift when his ill-weighted back pass was cut out by Phillip Billing, who made no mistake finishing past Daniel Iverson.

Despite the best efforts of the hosts in the second-half they failed to pull one back, and their visitors ran away with three points that could prove telling on Leicester City's season.

What he said

Maddison was honest after the game, accepting responsibility for the defeat and saying it had sunk him to a real low.

He said his mistake cost his team the game and claimed he tried his best to make up for it, but to no avail. He apologized to the fans, appreciating the atmosphere at the stadium, and pleaded with them to give them support, as they would need it in the coming games.

"It was a really tough one to take. I am very low at the moment,” Maddison said, per the BBC.

“We knew it was a big game and didn’t try and dress it up as anything else. We’ve worked really hard. I made a sloppy mistake and it cost us. I am very low.

"I’m always hungry to do well for the team. I tried to erase it and not do too much to make up for it. It wasn’t to be today. It is a sore one.”

Leicester face a daunting task in their next Premier League match as they travel to the Etihad to play Manchester City.
