Nigeria's Victor Boniface played from the bench as Bayer Leverkusen hosted Wolfsburg in a thrilling game at the BayArena.

In a pulsating Bundesliga encounter at the BayArena, Nigeria's Victor Boniface emerged as the saviour for Bayer Leverkusen, coming off the bench to secure a dramatic 4-3 victory over 10-man Wolfsburg.

The match, which saw the lead change hands multiple times, was a testament to the attacking prowess and resilience of both sides. 

Leverkusen initially took a 2-1 lead after 32 minutes, only for Wolfsburg to storm back and claim a 3-2 advantage at halftime.

The second half began with Leverkusen's Piero Hincape restoring parity in the 48th minute, setting the stage for a tense finale.

With the scores locked at 3-3, Xabi Alonso turned to his bench, introducing the 23-year-old Boniface in the 68th minute in search of a winner.

The Super Eagles striker, fresh off his impressive no-look pass in the Champions League, didn't disappoint. 

As the clock ticked into added time, Boniface found space in the center of the box and unleashed a left-footed shot that nestled into the net, sending the BayArena into raptures.

This crucial goal not only secured all three points for the reigning Bundesliga champions but also highlighted Boniface's growing importance to the team.

The Nigerian international has now contributed two goals and an assist in just three Bundesliga appearances this season, showcasing his efficiency and impact even in limited playing time.

Boniface's late heroics ensured that Leverkusen maintain their strong start to their title defense, while also demonstrating the depth and quality at Xabi Alonso's disposal.

For Wolfsburg, it was a bitter end to a spirited performance that ultimately fell short against the champions' resilience and star power.
