Libya 1-1 Rwanda
Nshuti Innocent and Gilbert Mugisha both had excellent opportunities to put Rwanda ahead in the first 10 minutes of play, but Murad Al Wuheeshi, Libya's goalkeeper, made vital stops to keep the score tied. Rwanda came out on top.
After that, Libya settled into a rhythm and took command of the match. Their efforts were rewarded in the 16th minute when Subhi Al Dawi broke the tie and gave Libya a 1-0 lead.
Libya took a more defensive stance after the goal and was able to hold onto their advantage.
To bolster the right wing, Rwandan coach Torsten Spittler replaced Kwizera Jojea with Samuel Gueulette in the 40th minute; nonetheless, the score remained unchanged at the interval.
Rwanda tied the score two minutes into the second half through a goal by Nshuti Innocent, which was assisted by captain Djihad Bizimana.
Rwanda was able to defuse a potentially explosive situation as Libya was pushing back in an attempt to score another goal.
Rwanda maintained its independence and gained ground on Tripoli despite Libya's dominance.
Libya and Rwanda are tied on top of the table as the Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to face the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in their group opener on Saturday, September 7, 2024.
On Tuesday, September 10th, at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, Rwanda will take on Nigeria in their second group game.
