The South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) reported that their delegation was stranded for three hours at the airport due to the absence of representatives from the Sudanese Football Association, who were expected to manage their reception.
Libyan migration authorities seized the passports of the South Sudanese delegation, leaving the team in a state of uncertainty and unable to proceed with their preparations for the crucial match.
The SSFA through their official account on X, shared a photo of the airport lounge where the team was held.

A statement attached to the video by the South Sudan Football Association read,"A footage of Bright Star stranded for staggering three hours at Benina International Airport, Benghazi Libya.
"When representative of Sudanese Football Association failed to turn up at their reception. The passports of the delegation were siezed by the Libyan Migration authority."
However, it appears all of the drama is now behind South Sudan as the team have now settled in and held their first training session ahead of the game against Sudan.
Sudan will take on South Sudan on Tuesday, March 25th at the Benina Martyrs Stadium, Libya (Martyrs of February Stadium) at 19:00 GMT.

This incident bears a striking resemblance to the experience of Nigeria’s Super Eagles in October 2024, when they were stranded for over 16 hours at Al-Abraq Airport in Libya ahead of an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
