Liverpool came from behind to beat Fulham 2-1 in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-final at Anfield

Liverpool are on course to qualify for the 2024 EFL Cup final having come from behind to edge Fulham 2-1 in the semi-final first leg at Anfield.

The Reds were the pregame favourites coming into this one which made it even more surprising when Fulham took the lead in the 19th minute through Willian's goal.

Virgil van Dijk had misjudged the flight of the ball which allowed Andreas Pereira to tee up his compatriot Willian who beautifully weaved his way through the box and fired a clinical strike past Caoimhin Kelleher.

Liverpool were not at the races in the first half which proved rather comfortable for the visitors, not something often said about Anfield, much to the chagrin of Jurgen Klopp.

The second half was a whole different story as the hosts came out with much more characteristic intensity in a bid to turn the game around which they ultimately did thanks to two goals in a space of three minutes.

Curtis Jones took aim from the edge of the area and saw his strike take a huge deflection off Tosin Adarabioyo before beating Leno in the 68th minute to equalise.

The Reds then capitalised on the momentum when Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez combined brilliantly to tee up Cody Gakpo for a clinical finish at the near post.

The result means Liverpool are now unbeaten in their last seven games across all competitions and will be taking a narrow advantage into the second leg at Craven Cottage on January 24th.
