‘Liverpool are not ready to win the Premier League'- Jamie Carragher says Reds not equipped for title

Liverpool won't be able to contend for the Premier League title, according to Jamie Carragher, until they add a defensive midfielder and another defender.

On Sunday, Liverpool drew 1-1 away to Luton and was lucky to escape with a draw thanks to Luis Diaz’s late goal.

Jurgen Klopp's side started the season strong and are currently in third position in the Premier League table, three points behind last season winners Manchester City.

The draw against Luton has made club legend Jamie Carragher highlight some of their weaknesses this season.

Carragher statement about Liverpool

Carragher claimed that teams could still counterattack Liverpool far too easily which leaves them vulnerable.

Speaking on Sky Sports, as reported by Daily Mail, Carragher said, “What Liverpool have had in the last 18 months, they're a lot better at it this season, they're still not as good as Manchester City at stopping counter-attacks.

“People always think about Liverpool pressing from the front, but Liverpool are a team who dominates possession, have a lot of the ball.

“They're not quite as good as City in possession so there's more turnovers when they lose the ball.

“Opponents seem to find spaces a lot more to get in behind and attack Liverpool. Luton didn't have the quality to really punish them except for the goal that we saw.”

Carragher emphasised that Mac Allister isn't fit to play in such a deep position even though he thinks the player is skilled.

Carragher emphasised that Liverpool needs to bolster their defence, claiming that Mac Allister occasionally has difficulties there.

Liverpool's next league match is at home against Brentford three days after their away match against Toulouse in the Europa League on Thursday.
