Andres Iniesta and Zinedine Zidane are two of the world's greatest midfielders but Liverpool manager Arne Slot believes there is one player above them.

The Premier League has produced some truly outstanding midfielders over the years.

The likes of Manchester United's Paul Scholes, Chelsea's Frank Lampard, Manchester City's Yaya Toure, and many more have graced the Premier League and indeed the world stage.

However, according to Liverpool boss Arne Slot, Reds legend Steven Gerrard deserves a place in the greatest XI of all time.

Gerrard remains one of Liverpool and England's greatest legends, scoring 185 goals in 710 appearances for the Reds.

Arne Slot picks Steven Gerrard over Iniesta, Zidane

Asked to pick his all-time Champions League XI for Amazon Prime, Slot explained his reason for picking Gerrard over the likes of Zidane, and Iniesta, who announced his retirement from football last week.

“If you would have asked me this a year ago I would have probably said Iniesta, but I think now I’m going to go for Steven Gerrard, being Liverpool manager!” said Slot (via This is Anfield).

“Why he might deserve to be in my team is that the other ones, like Iniesta, like Zidane, they played with incredible teammates, and of course, Steven Gerrard played with good to really good teammates, but I don’t think he played with the same level of players

.“Then still being so special for the club, lifting the trophy once, playing so long for this club, he meant so much for it.”

Slot's ultimate XI

Alisson

Trent Alexander-Arnold Virgil van Dijk Gerard Pique Frank de Boer

Sergio Busquets Luka Modric Steven Gerrard

Lionel Messi Cristiano Ronaldo Mohamed Salah

This lineup combines some of the greatest players of all time, with exceptional defenders, creative midfielders, and an unstoppable front three.
