Premier League leaders Liverpool have been linked with a sensational move for Real Madrid's midfielder.

Liverpool are reported to be preparing an audacious move for Real Madrid's midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni for the coming January transfer window.

The 24-year-old joined Los Blancos in the summer of 2022 for a reported €80 million fee from Monaco and could be set to leave less than three years later, with Liverpool ready to break their club record transfer for his signature.

Liverpool to test Real Madrid's resolve

The Reds have long been in search of a holding midfielder since Fabinho’s decline and subsequent move to the Saudi Professional League.

They signed Japan international Wataru Endo from Stuttgart last season as a stop-gap after failed moves for now-Chelsea duo Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo

Last summer, they went all out for Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi, but like Barcelona and Arsenal before them, they were told “no” by the Basque midfielder.

The position is one of keen importance to Arne Slot, and despite Ryan Gravenberch’s rise this season, the club are still keen on signing a top-level footballer for the role.

They have identified Real Madrid's Tchouameni as the ideal candidate, an interest they have held since the midfielder was at Monaco. While Tchouameni has been a regular for Los Blancos since his signing, he has failed to live up to his price tag and is not one of those deemed untouchable by the club.

The perception of him from within the club further waned this season after he has struggled to show he can guarantee the level of control the retired Toni Kroos assured.

According to Team Talk, Liverpool want to make a move this summer and are prepared to spend up to £100 million to land him, which would effectively become a club record transfer, surpassing the £85 million they paid Benfica for Darwin Nunez in 2022.
