Liverpool's Andrew Robertson compared the defensive aspect of the team between last season and the current campaign.

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson highlighted the difference between their defensive quality under Arne Slot this season and what was obtainable under Jurgen Klopp last term.

The Reds thumped rivals Manchester United 3-0 to make it three consecutive matches in the campaign without conceding a single goal.

Liverpool burst out of the blocks, with Trent Alexander-Arnold finding the net inside eight minutes, but the celebrations were short-lived as Salah's offside position in the build-up led to the goal being disallowed.

The Reds then weathered a storm of Manchester United pressure before reclaiming control of the contest. The breakthrough came in the 35th minute, courtesy of a pinpoint Salah cross, which Luis Diaz headed into an unguarded net.

The Colombian doubled his tally seven minutes later, combining with Salah once more, and slotting home with ease after meeting the Egyptian's cutback.

Salah then got in on the act, firing home a clinical finish in the 56th minute after being expertly played through by Dominic Szoboszlai, catching Onana off guard.

What Robertson said

Speaking after the game, Robertson, who reached a milestone of 300 appearances for Liverpool, hailed his team's defensive resilience.

He explained that Slot asks them to control games and believes that a sturdy defence is the key to winning anything. He suggested that they were not as good on their end of the pitch under erstwhile manager Klopp, as they left Allison exposed multiple times, a situation he believes has changed based on the evidence of the three games so far.

"We look a bit more secure defensively,” Robertson said, per the BBC. We had a lot more control in our game today. It was 3-0 and it could have been more.

“You can't argue with three great goals scored. A clean sheet is massive. To come away to your big rivals like Manchester United and keep a clean sheet is massive.

"They always say clean sheets will win you things and that's always been the case when Manchester City have won the league and when we did. Three games without a goal conceded is really good and we want to keep that going.

"Alisson had too many shots to save last season. I think he's been happy with the people in front of him so far. It's about the whole unit working hard. The wingers put in an unbelievable shift and it helps the boys at the back."
